Clean Water Within Reach of Home — and What Changes with It

The distance to clean water decides a day. When a tap stands within reach of home, hours return to a family — and the quietest change is the one you can drink.

The Trust's water work is counted in habits kept, not taps installed. A tap is an event; hygiene is a routine. So the programmes pair infrastructure with the everyday: handwashing that children keep because school made it normal, sanitation that families maintain because they chose where it stands.

Schools and health facilities come first — the places where clean water protects the most people at once, and where habits are taught by example.

“A tap is an event. A habit is a change.”

Programme design principle

Behind it all sits water security: sources that stay reliable through dry months, community-run maintenance that outlives any project, and planning that treats climate resilience as a starting assumption rather than an afterthought.

What does success look like? Water that is close, safe, and boring — so reliable that nobody thinks about it, and childhood gets to be about something else.
